Why qurl

One printed code.
Every page it needs.

A qurl code is printed once and stays useful for as long as the print is up: you decide where it goes, its rules decide where each scan goes, and you see what every print did.

  • Change it after it’s printed

Fix a wrong link or send people somewhere new. The print stays up and nothing is reprinted.

    Compare with a plain code
  • Rules you can read

Each scan goes by the time, the day, the date, the device, the location or the scan count, checked top to bottom.

    Try a test scan
  • See which print worked

Pin each code where it’s printed. Scans add up by placement and by campaign, in a one-page report.

    See an example report
  • Private by design

No cookies and no IP address kept. People are estimated, not tracked, so there’s no consent banner.

    How scans are counted
  • Codes people can check

The short link is printed under every code, and every destination is checked against lists of known harmful sites.

    What stands behind every code
  • Codes never die

If you stop paying, every printed code keeps sending people to its current destination.

The code is printed.
Where it goes isn’t.

A plain QR code has its web address baked into the pattern. Once it’s printed, nobody can fix a wrong link, repoint it after the event, or tell which poster worked. A qurl code holds a short link that you control, so the destination can change while the print stays up.

This is the Winter Fair poster. Choose when and where someone scans it. Its rules are checked top to bottom and the first match wins; anything else goes to the default, so a scan never lands on a dead page.

They’ll go to winterfair.example/today, because rule 2 applies.

    Know what worked.

From about 1,170 people, estimated without cookies. Each scan is traced to the code that was scanned: a banner, a poster, a café window.

388visits to the open-day RSVP page, counted in the school’s own analytics from tagged links.
482from the front gate banner alone, about a third of the campaign.
281on the first open day, 19 September. That’s 1 in 5 of the month’s scans.

Scans per day, 28 Aug – 26 Sep 2026. The whole report fits on one page a head of admissions can take to governors.

Scan locations are approximate, from the scanner’s network. qurl never claims street-level precision. The map covers Greater London for now.

    Trust

Codes people can trust, and data you can account for.

Fake QR codes are a real problem in the UK, from car parks to station posters. Here’s what stands behind every code qurl prints.

    Checked when you save

Every destination is checked against lists of known harmful sites before it goes live.

This link is on a list of known harmful sites, so it can’t be saved. Scans keep going to the current destination.

    Checked again at every scan

If a page turns bad after you’ve printed, scanners see a warning, not the page.

    Short link printed underneath

People can see where a code goes before they scan it, and type it if they can’t scan.

    Checked today

Winter Fair poster. Anyone can report a code that looks wrong.

    Cookieless

Nothing is stored on the scanner’s phone, so there’s no consent banner in their way. People are estimated, not tracked.

    UK GDPR

qurl records each scan with a rough area and the type of phone, uses the IP address for a moment without keeping it, and saves nothing on the phone. Schools get a data processing agreement.

    Codes never die

If you downgrade or stop paying, every printed code keeps sending people to its current destination.
